Another Dirty Deal

1. Outlaw on the Run   Play (Click play to hear a clip)

She’s an actress but she’s got no world acclaim
She’s just a season that never learned to change
Her life’s a motion picture and she’s the only star
You’re just a piece of scenery in her priceless work of art

She’s an outlaw on the run
She’ll shoot you dead Lord without a gun
She’s an outlaw on the run
Looking out for number one
Like an outlaw on the run

Lights, camera, action here strolls in the star
She’s the queen; she breaks all the hearts
If you want to play a part brother take my tip
You better know your lines or she’ll rewrite the script

She’s an outlaw on the run
She’ll shoot you dead Lord without a gun
She’s an outlaw on the run
Looking out for number one
Like an outlaw on the run

2. On My Mind  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

I’m just sittin’ here trying so hard
To write you a song
To let you know just how I feel
But it keeps coming out so wrong
The phrasing doesn’t match

The words well they won’t,
They won’t even let me rhyme
I’m just about ready now
To give it up, but I will try one more time

Darling it’s so simple
Though I really can’t explain
Darling it feels so good now
I can’t even call out your name
But once you hear my words
Though they may not be in rhyme
I hope you’ll realize they were written
With only you On My Mind

Darling it’s so simple
Though I really can’t explain
Darling it feels so good now
I can’t even call out your name
But once you hear my words
Though I may not make them rhyme
I hope you’ll realize they were written
With only you On My Mind

Oh, no one but you girl
No one but you
No one but you girl
Was ever
On My Mind

3. The Richest One  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

If I had a dollar for every time
You broke my heart and messed up my mind
I’d be the Richest One
I’d be the Richest One in the world
If bad times paid interest
I’d have you to thank
I’d be driving a new car
Have money in the bank
And I’d be the Richest One
I’d be the Richest One in the world

But money can’t buy love
The kind I dream of is so hard to find
A good woman's touch
In the morning when I rise
And baby I’d give up every single dime

 If teardrops were diamonds
From the African mines
If heartaches were silver
My whole life would shine
And I’d be the Richest One
I’d be the Richest One in the world

I’d have yachts in the Riviera
Mansions in Spain
Oil wells in Texas; big diamond rings
I would go where I want to go
Do what I wanna do; be what I wanna be
And I’d be the Richest One
I’d be the Richest One in the world

4. My Backs Against the Wall  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

I ran the moon out of Georgia
Down to the sunny Florida bays
I followed a line from north Miami
To the streets of east L.A.

They were searching for me in Tallahassee
But I was doing the California crawl
And I’d be looking over my shoulder
But My Back’s Against The Wall

And I learned how to run
Before I learned how to crawl
I learned the one who misses
He’s the one that stalled
I learned how to stay a step ahead
Of the man and his dogs
And I’d be looking over my shoulder
But My Back’s Against The Wall

I doubled back down to Dallas
Still looking for some kinda deal
I ran right into a redhead
She taught me a brand new way to steal
If I had known she was married
I never would have touched her at all
And I’d be looking over my shoulder
But My Back’s Against The Wall

And I learned how to run
Before I learned how to crawl
I learned the one who misses
He’s the one that stalled
I learned how to stay a step ahead
Of the man and his dogs
And I’d be looking over my shoulder
But My Back’s Against The Wall

5. You Hade a Way Play  (Click play to hear a clip)

An antique broach, a faded yellowed bow
How I recall you cherished those
The rooms the same
Though everything’s changed
I stand alone and still call your name

‘Cause you You Had A Way
Of hanging on every day
You, You Had A Way
Of holding me, just holding me

I took a rose to you today
I stayed for awhile
I knelt and I prayed
This old world’s is such an empty place
I close my eyes and I still see your face

‘Cause you, You Had A Way
Of hanging on every day
You, You Had A Way
Of holding me, just holding me

6. Dusty  Play  (Click play to hear a clip)

She had the knowings of a woman
The innocence of a girl
Said she’s twenty-five
And she’d traveled ‘round the world
Her eyes big blue and hollow
Hid all that lay behind
But one look at Dusty
You know’d she’s a traveling kind

She appeared out in the cotton field
On a hot summers’ afternoon
Guitar in her hand she said,
“I’d like to play ya’ll a tune
So we sat down ‘neath a shade tree
And drank some lemonade
And I lost my soul there
In the songs that Dusty played

for Dusty was as lonely
As the road she traveled on
From the great Midwest to Seattle
Then back down to San Antoine
She was a woman of the highway
The only life she ever knowed
Dusty’s soul was as weary, lord
As these Dusty Delta Roads

When she’d finished playing
She said “It’s time for me to move on.
I got some friends up in Memphis
I ain’t seen ‘em in so long”
And as she crossed the front yard
To that dusty delta road
That’s one woman boys,
I hated to see go

But some were born to be leaving
some are born to stay
And I guess that’s the reason
I let Dusty walk away
But sometimes late at night
Alone here in my bed
A soulful song starts stirring
And her memory floods my head

Cause Dusty was as lonely
As the road she traveled on
From the great Midwest to Seattle
Then back down to San Antoine
She was a woman of the highway
The only life she ever knowed
Dusty’s soul was as weary, lord
As these Dusty Delta Roads

7. Dealing With the Devil  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

A neon light is flashing sketching shadows on the wall
The faint sound of footsteps growing closer down the hall
A shiver crawls across your body in the intermittent dark
As down in the alley the hounds of hell begin to bark

You took your deal to the devil
What you wanted, you wanted fast
There was no time for the small print
Or to see the snake there in the grass
Now it’s too late for redemption
Your soul’s already lost
For when you’re Dealing With The Devil
You best beware of the double cross

Fame and fortune are fleeting
They’re never worth the cost you pay
How could you be so foolish to believe the promises he made
Now you’re drowning in the heat
In the hollowness of your sins
Wait! Now listen
When did those footsteps end

You took your deal to the devil
What you wanted, you wanted fast
There was no time for the small print
Or to see the snake there in the grass
Now it’s too late for redemption
Your soul’s already lost
For when you’re Dealing With The Devil
You best beware of the double cross

8. Ghost Train  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

The last train arrives at midnight
It’s always on time
The conductor is a heartache
The engineer a frame of mind
And standing in the shadows
On the platform in the rain
Is a memory of you
Unveiled and unashamed

And like a Ghost Train you’re riding
Down the back rails of my heart
Bringing back memories to me in the dark
And thru the foggy stillness
The whistle moans a sad refrain
And my soul it feels the rumble
From a runaway
A runaway Ghost Train

The stationmaster closes shop
As the train pulls in the station
He kills the light that illuminates
All other destinations
And in those eerie moments
As the engines spit and spew
I see that ragged baggage boy is me
And that memory is you

And like a Ghost Train you’re riding
Down the back rails of my heart
Bringing back memories to me in the dark
And thru the foggy stillness
The whistle moans a sad refrain
And my soul it feels the rumble
From a runaway
A runaway Ghost Train

9. Mississippi’s Burning  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

Deep down in the Delta where the muddy water flows
On the corner of Main and Honeysuckle Road
Lived a sweet young thing named Mississippi Sue
‘Til two time Tommy tore her heart into
Now there’s hell to pay where a man’s concerning
Sue’s on the loose; Mississippi’s Burning

Just one touch’ll set a man on fire
Melting in the heat of her hot desire
When the smoke clears she’ll say goodbye
Leaving only ashes come morning light
Walking out the door with no thought of returning
Sue’s on the loose; Mississippi’s Burning

She’s a hard rocking, show stopping creature of the night
Now she’s gonna do wrong, but she’s gonna do it right
She’ll make a boy a man and a man insane
just a bawling and squawling and calling her name
Blazing a trail of heartache and hurtin’
Sue’s on the loose; Mississippi’s Burning

Just one touch’ll set a man on fire
Melting in the heat of her hot desire
When the smoke clears she’ll say goodbye
Leaving only ashes come morning light
She’s walking out the door with no thought of returning
Sue’s on the loose; Mississippi’s Burning

Mississippi’s Burning
Mississippi’s Burning
Feel the heat

10. Old Friends  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring
But one things for certain
All things will change
‘Cause everyday is a crossroads
And we’ve all got to deal with the wind
And it sure makes it hard holding on to Old Friends

I said its hard holding on to old friends
The road it narrows, it splits and it bends
And all of the good times they come to an end
Sure makes it hard holding on to Old Friends

Some good-byes are never spoken
They’re the hardest to bear
When you turn and find an old friend
Is no longer here
Space and time take their toll
Moving by, moving by so hard and fast
As each passing day quickly fades into the past

And, I said its hard holding on to Old Friends
The road it narrows, it splits and it bends
And all of our good times they come to an end
Making it hard holding on to Old Friends

11. Another Dirty Deal  Play (Click play to hear a clip)

Billy’s cooking up in the back room
Lilly’s looking out for the heat
They’re two lost souls on a one way ride
Speeding down a dead end street

And it’s Another Dirty Deal going down
Another Dirty Deal going down
Around the corner; in the shadows
You can hear the sounds
Of Another Dirty Deal going down

Candy’s down on the cormer
Selling her soul on the street
Leather and lace, a baby doll face
Saving herself for every man she meets

And it’s Another Dirty Deal going down
Another Dirty Deal going down, down, down
Around the corner, in the shadows
You can hear the sounds
Of Another Dirty Deal going down

T.C. wants to buy a pistol
He wants to be a son of a gun
A monkey on his back
A little too much crack
Got him thinking about shooting someone

And it’s Another Dirty Deal going down
It’s Another Dirty Deal going down, down down
Around the corner, in the shadows
You can hear the sounds
Of Another Dirty Deal going down
